Matina’s Eye is a fiction story inspired by Greek folk tradition, family storytelling, and the mystery of the evil eye.
Little Matina is only forty days old when one night she suddenly becomes dangerously ill. Her frightened parents call Mistress Pagona, the neighborhood healer, who knows old prayers, folk remedies, and the traditional way of removing the evil eye.
Through emergency baptism, prayer, water, oil, and faith, Matina’s story becomes a tender and mysterious tale about protection, belief, family memory, and the traditions that passed from grandmother to granddaughter.
The book also includes the story of Mistress Pagona from Preveli, a woman who keeps alive the old village practice of healing through prayer, love, and faith.
A gentle work of magical realism and traditional mystery by Pantelis Papakonstantinou.
